Have you been seduced by a rich, refreshing glass of Marlborough Pinot Gris of late? As winemakers we’ve seen this grape variety moving up the hit parade in recent years, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring you award winning Pinot Gris under the Two Tails brand.
Pinot Gris is a white-wine grape, originally from the vineyards of Burgundy. As a general rule of thumb, here in New Zealand the wine produced from the grape is more Alsatian inspired, rather than taking its influence from the lighter-bodied, more acidic Italian styles, (Pinot Grigio).
Juice from the Pinot Gris grape variety is sometimes used in wine making as a blending component, but at Two Tails we know that the rich flavours and textures we are able to elicit from this grape variety will produce a stonking good wine, that has the legs to carry itself!
The grapes for Two Tails Pinot Gris are grown in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley. The vineyards are on north facing slopes with older river stones under alluvial loams.
Aromas and Flavours:
The vine produces grapes with elegant aromas and dense flavours including apricot, white peach and nectarine.
Well suited with flash fried and succulent prawns or calamari. For summer try charcoal barbecued pork ribs. With cheese’s try Haloumi and Gouda. Our favourite Pinot Gris dish is duck liver parfait and a drop of fig & onion jam.
