Here at Fairbourne Estate, New Zealand’s only specialist Sauvignon Blanc producer, and representative of the varietal as members of The Specialist Winegrowers of New Zealand, May 16th is a big day for us.
The date marks the fifth annual International Sauvignon Blanc Day, an online initiative that started in California with St Supery Winery as a global social media wine tasting. The event gets bigger every year and New Zealand has become very much part of the event.
Celebrations begin in New Zealand, and make their way around the world. Appreciation of the grape will be marked by Sauvignon Blanc lunches, tastings and events taking place in Melbourne, Hong Kong, London, and Toronto, culminating in San Francisco. Restaurants, retailers, wineries, global wine brands and consumers will be celebrating Sauvignon Blanc for the day.
Russell and I will be marking the occasion as part of the Wine Marlborough event at Cloudy Bay Tree House, Jackson’s Road. We’re looking forward to sampling other local Sauvignon Blanc wines, as well as sharing some Two Tails and Fairbourne Sauvignon Blanc with others attending the event.
Maybe we’ll see you there? If not join us on Twitter, you can find Two Tails HERE and Fairbourne HERE.
